François Ganeau was a French postwar & contemporary artist, born in Paris, France in 1912. Ganeau studied sculpture, and also painted. During his lifetime, he lived and worked both in Paris and abroad. Before WWII, he travelled extensively throughout Italy, Greece, Morocco and Egypt, painting and photographing. After the war ended, he returned to work promoting theatre and dance, as well as tourism. He continued to both paint and sculpt until his death in 1983. He designed typefaces for use in publicity materials, you may not even be aware, but you have seen his work on your computer, he designed the Vendôme Regular Font (1951-1954) and several variations of Vendome fonts.
Paul Poiret (1879 - 1944), was a French fashion designer, a master couturier known in America as “The King of Fashion". He designed for the romantic and theatrical possibilities of clothing, expressed through his use of vivid color and avant-garde designs. He was famous for his iconic “lampshade” tunics and his “harem” trousers, (seen on this plate), or pantaloons. He radically changed fashion and liberated women, first from the petticoat in 1903, and then from the corset in 1906.
